One month on from wading into the surf at Waikuku Beach North Cape on 5 January Jono Ridler has knocked off 493km of his Swim4TheOcean and completed more than a third of the total projected distance to Wellington.
After a powerful welcome into Whangamatā the night before, Jono and the Swim4TheOcean team set out from the beachside town, launching the StabiX support vessel off the beach and heading north to the last marked waypoint.

Jono Ridler has less than 1,000km to go in his Swim4TheOcean. The major milestone fell early in the morning swim on 1 February, with the distance-to-go counter dropping to 999km after departing Opito Bay.

A settled start and a faster finish marked a solid 20km day on Friday as Jono moved down the eastern edge of the Coromandel Peninsula, logging his 30th swim leg on 30 January in his epic Swim4TheOcean.

With notoriously tricky currents at the northern tip of the Coromandel Peninsula, timing was everything for this section of Jono Ridler’s Swim4TheOcean.
It was a demanding two-swim day on Wednesday, 28 January, as Swim4TheOcean pushed to make it across the Firth of Thames toward Colville.
In calm, sunny weather, Jono Ridler completed a six-hour swim that added more than 17km, before coming into Auckland for a positive, well-attended community activation in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
