Live Ocean Foundation is the Race for the Future charity partner of the Black Foils New Zealand SailGP Team. The kiwi team, led by Live Ocean founders Peter Burling and Blair Tuke are dedicated to using the power of sport to take the message of ocean restoration and protection to the world stage through adrenaline filled racing.
At the end of Season 2, the New Zealand SailGP Team won the world’s first podium for the planet through the Impact League. The winnings went directly towards the vital kelp regeneration projects Live Ocean Foundation supports.
On 2 May 2023, Jono Ridler embarked on a NZ record non-stop ultra-distance open water swim from Aotea Great Barrier Island to Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.
The unprecedented attempt at the 100km open water swim tested the limits of human endurance and is driven by a personal desire to inspire urgent action to protect and restore the health of the Hauraki Gulf.
In early 2024, Cared, Connor, Drew and Kurt embarked on a 75-day mission to kayak the length of the North Island from Cape Reinga to Wellington, raising awareness and funds for the Mental Health Foundation and Live Ocean Foundation.
The Voices For A Healthy Ocean declaration brings together sportspeople and ocean communities. These ocean champions have made the commitment to step up and use their platforms for good—sharing knowledge with their communities on the role that a healthy ocean plays in our future.
