SailGP teamed up with the Black Foils and Live Ocean for their first Ocean Impact Project of 2025 to support the restoration of kelp forests in the Hauraki Gulf.
With the help of the Hugo Charitable Trust, Live Ocean can support the work of Dr. Caitlin Blain from the University of Auckland to investigate how kelp forests contribute to coastal carbon cycles.
Globally significant blue carbon research is happening in NZ. Dr Caitlin Blain is investigating kelp’s role in carbon sequestration.
