In calm, sunny weather, Jono Ridler completed a six-hour swim that added more than 17km, before coming into Auckland for a positive, well-attended community activation in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
Jono Ridler departed from Te Hāwere-a-Maki Goat Island Marine Reserve north of Auckland this morning at 10:55am as his epic Swim4TheOcean continues to track down the east coast of the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Squalls of heavy rain and blustery winds didn’t deter Jono Ridler, or a large crowd of Swim4TheOcean supporters, on Sunday, 25 January.
The Swim4TheOcean live tracker had a different look yesterday, with the swimmer icon showing Jono Ridler tracking very close to land after departing Mangawhai before dawn.
An earlier start on Friday saw Jono hit the water just after 6am, spending five hours swimming before midday. He knocked off more than 13km in his first swim of the day.

After four and a half days ashore due to extreme weather Jono Ridler and the Swim4TheOcean team were back in the ocean just north of Whangārei yesterday.
The weather system causing flooding and damage across parts of Northland has also disrupted Swim4TheOcean with Jono Ridler and the team not able to get out on the water on Sunday, 18 January.
When we talk about protecting the ocean, the question often isn’t whether we should act, it’s where to start. Bottom trawling is a last century practice that has no place in a healthy ocean.
Jono began Saturday’s swim around 6km north of Tutukaka, with members of the local swim community on hand to see him off.
