Hundreds of Kiwis of all ages have created a Postcard for the Gulf to show their support for the Hauraki Gulf Tikapa Moana Marine Protection Bill.

This bill has been stalled in parliament since last December 2024.

We’ve put these postcards to decision-makers along with our ask for progress – we won’t stop pushing until it’s done.

Hundreds of people, young and old, shared a favourite photo and a few words about what they love most about the Gulf…

The Black Foils and Live Ocean have urged MPs and decision makers to read and consider this collection of Postcards for the Gulf created by Kiwis of all ages who want to see the Hauraki Gulf Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill passed into legislation as soon as possible.

Hundreds of people, young and old, shared a favourite photo and a few words about what they love most about the Gulf, to help Live Ocean and the Black Foils spotlight how the Gulf deserves urgent protection – for us, and for future generations.

The Postcards for the Gulf initiative kicked off alongside Foil4TheGulf, an on-water event which saw more than 200 people on foiling boards and boats gather at Okahu Bay in Auckland creating New Zealand’s largest foiling event ever.

The digital collection of heartfelt messages built momentum beyond Foil4TheGulf with submissions continuing to come in until the deadline and the Postcards collection has been sent digitally to politicians and decision-makers who have the power to act.

Live Ocean and the Black Foils have asked decision makers to act with urgency, to elevate and expedite the Hauraki Gulf Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill.
